How To Embrace Healthy Habits When Everyone Around You Hasn’t

It’s not that we don’t want to be healthy and must eat only fast food and cupcakes. We are perfectly able to set some powerful goals. But the determination to stick to our healthy habits could become a problem if you have friends inviting you for beer & burgers every night. They eventually become our excuse, and here are some ways to prevent this from happening.

1. Prepare your body

Have you asked yourself why your friends are still able to swallow those huge amounts of junk? Well, it’s enough to take one look at their beer bellies – their bodies don’t feel the difference anymore. If you implement a regular exercise routine, your body will start to object to this kind of abuse. But it can be hard doing it on your own when everyone else seems not to care. Luckily, you don’t. Because there are others that also do care. You simply have to find your right workout buddy. If you find the right person you’ll get hooked on your exercises together and won’t feel bad if you reject ‛let’s get wasted’ offers.

2. Reminders and Rewards

You can’t ban all the junk from the house – for your kids, they still can be little pleasures and your partner wouldn’t be pleased with a relationship that has restrictions involved. You can strengthen your choice not to touch them by putting up some images of celebrities with a body look you want to achieve or simply some inspirational quotes for additional motivation. But while they’re munching their sweets you can create your own healthy rewards for reaching milestones.
If your aim is to lose wait portion them according to the accomplished loss – 10,20,30,40…where 50 pounds means it’s time to treat yourself with a vacation. Makes sure that those awards are in correspondence with your results – new lingerie will highlight them more than casual clothing. It would be nice to keep them as much fitness related as you can, and signing up for a race can be a perfect opportunity to enjoy your accomplishments.

3. Embrace Different Workout Options

A couple of visits to the gym could make you feel that you definitely don’t belong among those bodybuilders showing off. This can result in a complete abandonment of physical exercise. Instead, use the largest exercise space – nature. Jogging, swimming, or simply taking long walks are all pleasant activities that can do wonders for your health. If you’re still searching for a workout buddy, get your family involved. Take them to a park for a game of volleyball or football. If you have kids, taking them outdoors is an exercise itself.

4. Don’t Believe Everything They Say

It’s not just about watching your calories but listening to your body. You need to check if you’re allergic to some food, and, if you are – do something about it. For example, many people have gluten intolerance, but they’re keeping their intake because they’ve heard gluten-free products taste awful. Maybe your friends are saying they have it too, and that it’s not a big deal. Yes, it won’t kill you, but it won’t make you feel good, either. Why torture your body, especially when those same friends are really careful about what they eat when nobody’s watching. There are some pretty delicious recipes, which is proven by an enormous success of gluten free online shop Australia has established, and there are similar products available worldwide. So stop believing the gossip and start eating food according to your body’s needs.

5. Know Why Are You Doing It

A simple notion that it would be good to go for a run won’t make you stand up from the couch. In order to truly embrace healthy habits, you need to know why you wanna do it. Is leading a healthy lifestyle your road to getting fit, or healthy eating and exercising helps you to deal more easily with your health problems? Or maybe it’s simply about feeling good in your own skin, feeling energetic and happy? There is no right answer, but you must have one to keep in mind.

6. Understand The Habits

Have you ever wondered why you always automatically order alcohol in a bar even if you don’t feel like it? Or buy the biggest bag of popcorn in a movie theatre although it makes you thirsty as hell? It’s because your mind is trained by accumulated previous experiences. To put it simply – we’re slaves to our habits.

A habit is a never-ending loop: it starts with a cue (you arrive at the party) which then triggers a routine (let’s get wasted) and ends with a kind of reward (you feel relaxed and free). This happens as long as we perform our habits automatically without thinking. So all you have to do is to switch off the autopilot and link a new routine to the cue, the one of the desired behaviour.

Don’t torture your body and equip it with a defence mechanism through regular exercise, but don’t forget to include some healthy rewards. Exercise where you want and how you want. Be aware of what causes your unhealthy behaviour and know why you wanna established a new one. If you have your own secrets how to keep the ‛unfaithful’ at bay, let us know.

Thank you to Mianna for writing such a useful post. What advice would you give to people struggling to maintain healthy habits?

Ciao for now beauties xx

Some great tips here for keeping healthy habbits. I struggled with excersise as my friends saw it as a waste of time. I found it took a lot log determination to go at it alone but it was definitely worth the discipline.

  2. I love the idea of getting into nature with family instead of feeling tied to the gym.

The most important tip is to not beat ourselves up when we make mistakes. We are only human.

Possibly my worst habit is finishing everything on my plate, even when I am no longer hungry. I know it goes back to when I was a kid and I was told I had to eat everything. Like you said, habits are tough to break and I still have this one.

Great post! Any goal that is different than those around you will be harder to strive for, so it helps to have strategies and a mindset in place when you encounter resistance. Thanks for equipping us to stick with it! 💪🏾

  7. This is such a great post! I think the best thing to do when you are ready to get healthy but the people around you aren’t is to know your why. If you know your why, when things come up or people get in your head you can always come back to your why and get yourself recentered.

Half the battle is definitely preparing your mind and body! Being healthy is a lifestyle change and that can be hard at times.

  9. This is a great post! We all have those moments of weakness regardless but when no one in your circle is even trying to be healthy, it gets even more difficult to stay on track sometimes.
