Spring is officially upon us and we can kiss goodbye to those dark, depressing, cold days. I am grateful for the upcoming Spring as a chance to nurture my positive side and focus on the things that make me happy.
The chaos that happened with The Beast from the East/Storm Emma here in the UK came at a stressful time for me. It encouraged me to take stock of elements without my life and how they were impacting me negatively.
So what does a blogger do to cheer herself up and get out of the negative mind space? My answer to that is to focus on the things I love and do a favourites post. I had the choice of whether to go deep and philosophical; speaking about my immense love for my family and walking along a windy beach spelling the fresh sea air.
However poetic that may be, I thought a product favourites would feed my inner instinct; to have beautiful things that make me feel like a Queen. With my favourite videos on YouTube being favourites and disappointing products I thought this would put the Spring back into my step.
Small mustard handbag
I bought this with the money I had got for my Birthday; it called out to me while scouring the aisles of TK Maxx. I wanted a new handbag that was smaller than my previous one as I felt like I did not need a larger bag anymore. I had a big bag to carry things like nappies and baby food when we went out for the day.
Smaller handbags are on trend at the moment. I was drawn in by the style bloggers looking marvellous while carrying everything they need in a minuscule amount of space. This handbag is a decent size and fits all my essentials. It reduces my frustration of not being able to find the right keys due to too much space.
The final thing I adore about this handbag is the colour. This beautiful mustard yellow is a perfect pop of colour for every season.. I can envisage myself wearing this throughout the rest of the year as it is a classic item. I also wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone of buying green or purple handbags. This colour does not appear in my wardrobe often however I am starting to change that.
This is another birthday purchase and was an instant impulse buy. People proclaim that the unicorn trend is over but it will forever live on in my mind. Rather than being overly girlie, I see unicorns as a sassy creature who does not mind being crazy and fabulous.
I did not need a new hairbrush, but it is always handy to have a couple littered around the house so that you do not waste time finding one when you need it. I prefer paddle brushes for my hair as I have a lot of it, it may be fine and straight but I tend to amaze hairdressers by the sheer amount and thickness of it. This beautiful brush is sitting proudly on my makeup desk in my bedroom and is a continual reminder not to take life too seriously.
PS Love Emerald perfume from Primark
I have been focusing on using this perfume for the past few weeks and it is becoming a firm favourite. I have quite a few perfumes in my collection and I like to swap and change them around so I do not get bored of them. Have you ever had a perfume that you wore every single day for a considerable time and after you have used it up you have no desire to buy it again? This has happened to me with many perfumes; Lady Gaga Fame, Katy Perry Killer Queen and Britney Spear’s Midnight Fantasy. Since the Primark perfumes are cheaper, I can afford to get two or three and have them in rotation and I am less likely to be bored.
When I first smelt this fragrance I was instantly surprised, I had never smelt anything like this recently and I was unsure at first. However, after the scent settled down and I checked again, it smelt stunning. This perfume is reported to be a dupe for Marc Jacobs Decadence but I have not been able to compare it at this time.
Make-up Revolution Iconic Divergent palette and the Morphe 35B
I could not decide between these two palettes so I decided to put them both in my makeup box. I have had the Morphy 35b for a while now and have dug it out of my collection to give it some love. This palette is perfect for Spring; it has an array of bright colours that you can mix and match to get a great look. I adore the pinks and purple shades at present. The shadows are easy to work with, they blend well and although not the most pigmented and slightly chalky, they do the job well.
The other palette I have been using in conjunction with this is the Makeup Revolution Iconic palette in Divergent. I have been using this in conjunction with the Morphe 35b palette as it has a large range of shimmer shades. The shimmer shades are creamy and pigmented and look stunning on the eye and the matte shades blend well. My favourite shades have to be the light shimmer shades along with the turquoise shade. I’ve decided to put these two palettes together as they complement each other and a perfect for the springtime the Morphe 35b offering a multitude of blendable mattes and the makeup Revolution offering gorgeous pops of shimmer.
Lime Crime lipstick in Moonstone and Wisteria
Since doing my Lime Crime lipstick haul, these two lipstick have become firm favourites in my collection. I am so happy that now spring is upon us I can wear these two shades much more. As you might already know mauve and lilac lipsticks are my all time favourite shades of lipstick and I am forever hunting for new variants of these colours.
Lime Crime Whisteria
I was late to the Lime Crime lipstick trend and after a lot of resistance I finally purchased from their site and was not disappointed. I know lime crime have had their controversies in the past and it always makes me slightly wary but I am glad I went along and bought these lipsticks as they are phenomenal colours. I am aware that these colours are similar and possibly you would not need both of them.
The Lime Crime matte liquid lipstick formula is a great one and it wears down well; it is not quite as good as my Beauty Bakerie Lipsticks but I am still happy to wear them. I think they are similar to the Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks so if you are looking for an alternative, these might be good to try. They also smell absolutely divine; a budget-friendly alternative is the MUA Velvet Lip Lacquers which do not last as well but are great value for any money minded makeup addict.
Make-up Revolution conceal and define concealer in C1
The hype for this product is real and I can recommend this concealer wholeheartedly. This concealer has been a game changer in the beauty community, showing that you can get products as good as Tarte’s Shape Tape at a fraction of high-end prices. The shade range for this concealer is amazing and has everything for everyone no matter how pale or dark they are.
The concealer has great coverage, blends to a flawless finish and at just £4 it is an essential item in any makeup lovers bag. I use the shade C1 and it highlights in such a stunning way. Make-up Revolution has also released Foundation sticks to go with the concealers I am so desperate to try these out and will be bringing you a review as soon as I can get my hands on one of them.
I thought I would include some music favourites as my music taste can often change dependant on my mood. Early February I have immersed in everything pop music as I was finishing the school show. March was beckoning and I needed to change up the music I was listening to on the way to and from work. I wanted upbeat music, but I wanted something that was more in my rock comfort zone.
I was looking through my playlists on Spotify and I came across a playlist that I had created years ago and had left sitting there amongst the every growing graveyard of untouched playlists. That playlist was my ‘covers’ playlist; a collection of songs I loved done in different styles. A large number of these songs contrast to their processor in many unusual ways. It reminds me that, whilst we are all human, we are all individuals and have our unique ways of seeing the world.
One of my favourite songs on the list is Hurt by Johnny Cash; who is a favourite artist of mine and features on the playlist on numerous occasions. The song is so haunting and beautiful; Cash’s version brings a new dimension to it and reminds me how precious life is.
On this playlist is also a lot of songs by The Smiths and the artist Morrissey. I love the music but after having seen Morrissey in concert and realising he is not a nice person I have preferred to listen to other artists versions of his songs. I can still sing along to the music that I love without remembering that night where my bubble was burst.
Another element that features heavily on this playlist is Punk covers of Cheesy pop songs. I used to listen to the band Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s when at university and I forgot about how upbeat and amazing their covers of songs like ‘Rainbow Connection’ ‘Rocket Man’ and ‘Uptown Girl’ where. Spotify also has this great feature that recommends songs for the specific playlist and I have been discovering some brilliant covers; who would have thought I would listen to Justin Bieber and not realise I was.
Ru Paul’s drag race All Stars season 3
‘If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love somebody else, can I get an amen up in here?’ These words synonymous with Ru Paul’s Drag Race are echoing around my living room once more and this time it’s the best of the best competing. I am a huge Ru Paul fan and I adore the creativity, uniqueness and talent that is shown on this program.
When I found out that both Shangela and BenDeLa Creme where competing in All-Stars, I was instantly torn as to who was my favourite. Ben is a comic genius and all round Miss Congeniality and Shangela serves up observational wit and humour with sass and realness.
As write this, the final is less than a week away; I have laughed, cried and generally been inspired by every contestant. Whoever takes the crown; they are all winners.
Lethal Weapon the series
I rarely find TV shows that keep my interest anymore; I am always doing two things at once so I do not focus fully on a TV program. This frustrates my husband greatly as I am always asking questions because I have missed something.
I was sceptical when my Husband suggested this TV show. I thought it would be something I would not watch, how wrong could I have been. This program had me laughing and fully engaged throughout the season and if I missed something, it was very easy to pick back up. By the end of the first season, I was desperate for more. If you like your TV full of action and cheesy jokes then this is the program for you.
What are you Spring Favourites? What TV shows would you recommend I watch next, let me know in the comments?
Ciao for now beauties xx
