The Blogger Recognition Award

I have been somewhat of a forgetful blogger; having a full time job and a family has often hindered my ability to be a super responsive blogger. I have been nominated for various awards from other bloggers, which is a massive honour and has made me smile, but for one reason or another I have forgotten to get my backside into gear and get the posts written, also I write posts a month in advance making a quick response harder. I am truly thankful for the recognition from other bloggers as I know how hard bloggers have to work, so I feel like I need to add an apology with this. I am tardy in responding to this nomination from the lovely Jecca at Marble Crow Curiosities

What is the Blogger Recognition Award?

The Blogger Recognition Award is an award that fosters the blogging community through connecting with each other and working together to grow our little patch of the internet. Since I started blogging I have discovered so many wonderful people and so many wonderful blogs through my journey and now it is time for me to share some of them with you.

What is my blog about, and why did I start writing?

My blog started in March 2017 and it was originally called ‘Mrs T’s Makeup Bag’ which gives you a massive clue as to what my blog’s focus is. I started originally my blog as a place to share my obsession of makeup and what I have learnt on my ‘makeup addiction journey’. However, I soon realised that I wanted to write about other topics; I had this deep desire to share my views and opinions on the things that surround my life; makeup, beauty, parenting and coping with the craziness of the world around us.

I feel like I started writing because I needed something to focus on and occupy my mind. People know that I love talking and when I am passionate about something I get so many ideas and thoughts on things. Subsequently, when I started writing, I was hooked, I felt like a child in a sweet shop when I was writing, in a happy place indeed. I think that I love writing because I offload my brain, it is like therapy and I will continue writing even if I decide not to blog, it helps my clear my head so much.

Advice for bloggers starting out

I jumped into blogging without doing any initial research or reading up about blogging and have had to learn with great speed; I have made lots of mistakes and I have found out that blogging is so much more then just writing about what you love. I did not realise that blogging would require so much work on social media; I thought people would come to my blog in an organic manner, but you have to dedicate a lot of blogging time to promoting content. With so many blogs and bloggers on the internet, it is not just about the quality of writing, but ‘networking’ and ‘promoting’ yourself.

I would say before you start creating a blog, read other people’s blogs, follow bloggers in the niche that you want to write about and find out what you like and what you don’t. You do not need to know everything about blogging because you can learn about it as you go through the journey, but as they say knowledge is power and the more you have of that the better.

Another piece of advice would be to write about what you love, passion for the subject will shine and attract readers. Unless you blog for the soul purpose of making money through it, blogging definitely requires commitment and love and if you are not passionate about what you are writing, you will find it hard to maintain when a slump appears.  Times will get tough, life will obstruct, you will get to the point of wanting to throw in the towel, but if you love what you write about, I find it helps you through the slumps, as ‘unslumping yourself is not easily done’ (Dr Seuss).

  1. Thank you so much for the nomination and congrats to you as well! I definitely agree with what you said about passion for your subject shining through, it’s hard enough to keep it going when you hit writer’s block or a slump as you said. Love it! xx

I love your original name of Mrs. T’s Makeup Bag! It’s also nice to find another blogger who writes in advance. I think a lot of us do but some don’t want to admit it. There’s no shame in planning ahead!

Thank you again for the nomination! I look forward to writing this post! ❤
