10 favourite nail polishes for the season
Nail polish used to be a thing I was obsessed with, I had tonnes of different colours and finishes and would spend hours painting my nails so they looked perfect. I am sad to say that after the birth of my second child, the nail polish addiction fell by the waste side, my nails became weak and brittle from using sterilising solution and so I just gave up painting my nails and my nail polishes sat unloved in their storage box.
So why am I writing a blog post about nail polishes? The reason I am writing this post is to rekindle my passion for nail polish because I do actually miss it. Strange as it may seem, that little time I spent on my nails made me happy, to be out and about and to look down to lovely, colourful nails would make me smile and for one reason or another, it made me feel more put together.
So I am going to go through my favourite nail polishes for the autumn months in the vain hope that it will make me get off my behind and actually dedicate some time to making my nails look put together again.
As you can probably gather from the picture, I have a certain love for blues, greens and purples; I gave away quite a few of my nail polishes to my niece when attempting to declutter my collection. These are the polishes that I will be wearing through the next few months and I am also going to post a few polishes that are on my wish list, I might find an excuse to get a few more.
Blue is not really a colour you would necessarily associate with autumn but a nice pop of teal or muted blue can work really well in the autumn. These are my three favourite blues for the colder months.
OPI – Dining Al Frisco. This is a blue with a shift of silver and has a very shiny, metallic look that would go really well with navy or even orange if you are feeling daring.
Essence Gel Polish – Miss Captain. This is a muted petrol/grey tones blue that will look fabulous as the weather gets colder.
China Glaze – Shower Together. This polish looks brighter in the pictures but this is a lovely teal colour that will go really well with purples and oranges especially, it is really rich and perfect for injecting a little colour into autumn.
Over the past few years, purple has become a firm favourite in my wardrobe and in my makeup collection so it is hardly surprising that I have lots of much moved purple polishes.
Butter London HRH – This is the only Butter London polish I have, I got it at TK Maxx on sale and love the shiny purple shift and metallic look, the colour is so rich and elegant.
China Glaze – Teen Spirit – Named after the legendary song by Nirvana, this is an almost black, purple polish with lots and lots of sparkle and glitter, what more could you want on a cold, bleak day?
China Glaze – Draped In Velvet – This is a deep magenta purple with gold shimmer in, a perfect berry shade for the autumn months that will go with every autumn outfit. You could also match your nails to your favourite autumn lipsticks.
Green is my favourite colour, it is so rich and calming at the same time and at one point, most of the things I owned were green, I even have a collection of green glass. Out of all my nail polishes, I have the most greens.
OPI – Jade Is The New Black – This is such a rich and sumptuous jade colour that will work well with browns and purples.
Barry M – Watermelon – This is such a beautiful dark green that will go well with any autumn outfit, it is a lovely alternative to black and will work well under a glitter top coat.
OPI – My Dogsled is a Hybrid – Where do OPI come up with these names? This was one of my first nail polish purchases and an all-time favourite it is such a nice sage colour that is great for the autumn months.
Wildcard polish – Essence Gel polish in Serendipity
I have put a wildcard in on account of really liking this colour for the colder months. This polish by Essence (available at Wilko) is a mushroom grey colour with a pint of purple that is really classy and sophisticated, it is the type of neutral colour that will go with absolutely everything and anything. This is a perfect nail polish for those people that want something understated but it still makes a statement. Essence makeup is also really budget-friendly, so if you are not sure whether a particular colour would suit you then you have not lost out that much.
