Extreme Makeup Trends

As long as people are buying makeup, there will always be different trends that come and go. Some are welcomed with open arms and embraced while others are given a wide berth and avoided like the plague.
One thing we know is that the boundaries of makeup are being pushed and tested, sometimes to the extreme. Here, I am going to go through some of the makeup trends that have maybe pushed the boundary to the limit, as I always say, this is just purely my opinion and if you like these trends, then as long as you are happy, that is all that matters.

Wobbly eyebrows

The ‘wobbly’ trend is possibly the newest trend of them all, with wobbly lipstick accompanying it soon after. This trend for wobbly brows probably followed the wobbly eyeliner trend, which I actually really like as a unique and artistic editorial style of makeup.

After we had the ‘feather brow’, makeup influencers were after the next, big, extreme eyebrow trend to sweep over the internet like a swarm of locust, we had extreme eyebrow carving, which did not really take off, then along came the wobble.

The wobbly brow has become so popular as an extreme makeup trend that there is even a Snap Chat filter where you can get wobbly brows without even touching the brow pomade. I had real fun with my son rocking the wiggly eyebrows on Snap Chat but I feel that this trend is just a step too far and would take more time than it is worth.

Glitter pits

All I really have to say about this one is ‘ouch’. The trend for glitter has been a big thing for the past year with people using it for nights out, festivals and artistic makeup looks. The boundaries of where the glitter is being applied have been pushed so far, it has reached the pits.

I don’t understand this trend, when will you be able to show off your glittery armpits? Are you going to walk around with your arms in the air forever? How are you going to take it off without hurting the heck out of your armpits; after all, taking glitter off your face hurts bad enough, which is less sensitive than your underarms.

The other sore experience that springs to mind are the friction from the glitter rubbing together it does not bear thinking about and makes me wince just imagining it. I also feel this is a waste of glitter and the glitter glue; unless you are going out or are an influencer then what is the point in doing it, but then again, that could be said for all extreme makeup trends.

Glossy eyes

This one I do not like because of the feel and look of it, I am all for glossy lips but I feel like glossy eyes are a step too far. The whole trend just does not appeal to me and I am so used to matte or shimmers that a gloss on my eyes would feel too weird and sticky. I feel like this trend is a more high fashion, younger trend that myself, as a woman nearing her 40’s, just doesn’t ‘get’.

Another issue I feel there is with the glossy eye trend is that, if you are not careful, it can make your eyes look like there is something wrong with it, like an infection or weeping uncontrollably. There is also the issue of glosses highlighting imperfections, so if you are older, it can accentuate the wrinkles on your eyelids. Glosses are also near enough impossible to keep in place, so within half an hour your lovely, glossy eye is going to be halfway across your face.

Long toenails

How can you function with long toenails? What shoes would you wear? I am not talking long as in you forgot to cut them down, I am talking the trend of actually applying false nails to your toes and having them a lot longer than usual.

My toenails are usually my last priority when it comes to beauty, they are forever covered so I do not bother much with painting them and doing nail art on them. I can never understand the desire to get acrylic, false toenails as to me it looks so difficult to function with them. It reminds me of the athlete Flow Jo, now imagine trying to run for a bus with that on your toenails.

As I said before, this is just my personal opinion and not intended to offend anyone who likes these trends; we are all individual and different which is the great thing about the world. What trends do you feel are too extreme, I would love to know in the comments. Everyone has trends they dislike, what are yours?

Ciao for now beauties xx
