End of term party outfit
I was really nervous about going to this end of the school year event; I have not been out on a night out without Neil since Sebastian was born, having children means that social occasions are few and far between.
Social events also make me nervous and anxious because I worry what people think of me etc. I was determined to go and prove I could get over my demons, but the main thing that was worrying me was ‘what on earth was I going to wear?’
So here is what I came up with, I loved the outfit and it helped boost my confidence. I had a really good time and hopefully it has paved the way for me going out on more social occasions and waving goodbye to the anxiety that surrounds it.
Green and blue Jersey Trousers George @ Asda £10
I had several pairs of patterned trousers in my hands when I came across these; one black and hot pink and one blue and white with a hint of mustard, well they were dropped quicker than a hot potato when I saw these beautiful trousers.
I was looking for something comfortable and lightweight that I could also use when I go on holiday to sunny Colchester (I’m visiting family) and these were absolutely perfect and in my favourite colour of green.
The other thing that sealed the deal was the price, £10 is an absolute bargain for something that I am not going to wear too often; since as the Great British weather has a habit of letting us down. I love that the pattern also has blue and black in; black is so easy to match stuff up and accessorise and I also love blue and green mixed together.
Black Loose Vest £4 George @ Asda
I was determined to get something with a v neck as that is the most flattening style of top for my shape; it slims my top half down. I was looking for just a simple, fitted cotton vest but when I found them I was annoyed that the straps were so very thin, which wouldn’t work for me so I went for this loose one and it was actually a good thing. I am so very conscious of my stomach area and my ‘mum tum’ that I wanted to completely cover it and not have to worry, it was perfect.
Teal coloured Crochet Bolero
This is something that has been in my wardrobe for quite a while; I got it from Primark and it was been a staple ever since. I always want to cover the top of my arms (can you tell I have body insecurities?) because of the thing that all women hate with a passion; the dreaded ‘Bingo wings’. These cover them up perfectly but are still light and summer appropriate. I also like that this one has tie so that you I could break the top up underneath and create an empire line effect.
Sandals £10 from Amazon
I was originally planning to wear some gold sandals that I already had, but when I decided on buying the trousers and the top I suddenly realised that I would need some shoes to match. I do not own many pairs of shoes as I do not wear heels and tend to be in deck shoes if I am not working again out of sheer need for comfort.
Again when buying things I have to think practically and buy something that I can get more than one use out of. These sandals can be worn with near enough anything and are perfect for when I go away or for the summer holidays in general. They are really comfortable and seem to mould with your feet. I did not have to break them in and I wore them for 8 hours without any discomfort. I will certainly be looking at this brand again if I need more shoes in the future.
Green cross body bag Ebay
I was looking for a new handbag for the summer and I came across this beauty; I always look at Ebay for handbags and purses as they are so cheap and you can get stuff that looks really good.
I bought this because of the cool honeycomb pattern and the gold V symbol on the front gave it a slight designer look. I always buy a cross body handled bag as being a mum I constantly need my hands free when I am out and about and do not want to be having to keep track of my bag all the time.
I actually bought a purse at the same time as buying this but as soon as they both arrived I realised that the purse was so big that it would not fit into to bag; it was a good excuse to buy another purse though. Now I know that the ‘in thing’ for going out on a night out is to have a clutch bag but I have always been one for practicality over style; I have less chance of losing my bag this way.
I do not wear jewellery on a daily basis, not even my wedding ring (because it causes skin problems around my finger) but I like to wear a little bit when I go out, which is very rare. I do not wear earrings as they just hurt and cause a nuisance and having not worn them for years I cannot actually get them back in without causing myself a lot of pain.
I love gemstone beaded bracelets, I have lots of gems stashed around the house for their various qualities. I had three gemstone bracelets on; turquoise one which promotes, a jade one which promotes and a black gemstone which I got as a present so I am not sure whether it is just coloured glass or infact something like Black Onyx.
I also wore a silver three circle necklace that I have had for a long while; I used to have lots of costume jewellery but since as I don’t really wear it anymore I passed it onto someone else. I think I kept this one because it has a very 60’s vibe to it with the circles. I does a good job of breaking up the black on the top I feel and is longer than my usual necklaces.
I had to practice this look because I wanted to get it absolutely right and I had not really done a full on smoky glitter eye for a while. I used mainly Makeup Geek eyeshadows for the smoky section; I used Beaches and Cream, High Tea, Stealth, Envy, Epic and Secret Garden. I also used the 35C palette, mainly for the dark greys and for the lid shade I used the turquoise colour from it. I then topped the lid off with some turquoise cosmetic glitter I had got from Ebay, using the Stargazer Glitter glue.
With it being a night out I thought I would feed my highlighter addiction and go so shiny that I could be seen from space. It did not really show very well on the pictures but I used ‘Forever Lit’ from the ABH Nicole Guerriero palette as a general highlight and then topped it off with the most shiny turquoise highlighter on the cheeks and inner corners. The turquoise highlight is called Buzz from an great independent makeup brand called Phee’s Makeup Shop, she makes here own highlighters that are the shiniest I have ever used, they are out of this world.
So that was my outfit and the reasons behind it, thank you for sticking with me if you have managed to stick with my ramblings, sometimes it is nice to have a friendly chat, even if it is down a computer. What do you think of the outfit, let me know in the comments.
Ciao for now xx
