My 6 Product Makeup Look

What! Only 6 products?

It sounds a bit ridiculous for a beauty addict to limit themselves to just 6 products but that is exactly what I did for a makeup look. Since we have been in the middle of a heat wave here, which only ever happens once in a blue moon, I have been avoiding putting on a full face of makeup through fear of melting like my alter ego, the Wicked Witch of the West.

This reluctance to plaster my makeup on in my usual fashion got me thinking about what makeup products that I could not live without. It made me think ‘what if I could only carry my makeup in my handbag, what would I pack?’

Work has been tiring recently so I have been trying to reduce my morning makeup routine and do a less extravagant look. (I checked my temperature, I am not ill, honest). I spent a few days playing around with some very simple looks, working out what I liked and this is what I came up with.

It is a very neutral, natural makeup look, which is not usually my style, but I enjoyed doing something a bit more simple for a change. Here are the six products I used:

Rimmel Lasting Perfection Concealer in Ivory

Due to my under-eyes being less than co-operative, I am cool toned and cursed with blue/purple under-eyes, I cannot go without concealer. I am quite lucky that I can get away without a full face of foundation in the summer months as my freckles appear and it kind of evans out my skin tone, I am also lucky with breakouts (karma for being a teen with horrendous acne problems.)

This concealer really is my favourite, it works great to conceal, lighten and highlight under my eyes and reduce some of the redness on my cheeks. I think if I was only allowed one makeup product, it would be concealer.

Nyx Micro Brow pencil in Espresso

This is another repurchased product which I love and is a fantastic dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz (I watched a video suggesting they could possibly be made in the same factory/ be the same product but private labelled).

It is such a quick way of sorting my brows out without having to mess around with brow pomade and a brush. It lasts all day and the spoolie that comes with it is a brilliant addition.

I will definitely buy another one when this runs out, although I am debating whether to go back to the shade Ash Brown which I used to use.

Freedom Pro Strobe Palette

I debated about including an eye shadow palette but decided to pick this as it is such a multi functional product. As you can see from the pictures, it has been well used and loved. This one product enabled me to do an eye shadow look, contour and highlight all on one.

For the eye look I used the lightest contour shade as a transition, the darkest to deepen my crease and then put the highlight shade as an overall shiny colour.

I have been loving using this palette recently for the bronzer, opting against using blush in favour of a more summer appropriate bronzed look. I adore the highlighter in this palette, it is one of my favourites and gives a lovely shiny glow which is great for everywhere that you want to highlight.

If you are travelling very light, I would highly recommend getting a palette like this that is so multi functional.

Essence Volume Stylist 18H mascara

I really love Essence mascara’s, which can be bought at Wilko, Essence ousted Maybelline’s mascara as my holy grail mascara. They really are brilliant and half the price of Maybelline. I have tried four Essence mascara’s; the princess lash one, forbidden volume and the big volume and this one. My favourite was the forbidden volume, however, it has been discontinued and this was the replacement. It is still a really good mascara, I just prefer the more old-fashioned bristle brushes that are quite thick.

Essence Eyeliner Superfine pen

I have decided that I cannot live without some form of eyeliner, I just feel strange without it. I am reserving judgement on this one for the moment, I am not quite sure I would recommend it.

I have been using the Collection Extreme 24 hour pen eyeliner which I reviewed (Mrs T reviews… liquid eyeliner) and although I love the formula and it is definitely smudge proof, the nib isn’t the best I have used.

This is the reason I wanted to try the Essence one, I have been happy with the formula of Essence eyeliner before and the very fine brush is perfect for what I want. I am however reserving my judgement because the product seems to be inconsistent between one day to another.

I store my pen liners in the same way but it seems to run out of product quickly as opposed to the Collection one. It is a very affordable product, but with the Collection one being roughly the same price it is the eternal debate; formula over applicator.  It is still a good buy though.

Jefree Star Liquid Lipstick in Sagittarius

The amount of times my blog mentions Jeffree Star (Have We Had Enough of Jeffree Star?) you would have thought I was a little bit obsessed. The reason I have quite a few of his lipsticks is the beautiful shades like this one and the formula is brilliant.

I got Sagittarius as a Christmas present and wanted it because it was hailed as a cross between Androgyny and Scorpio which are two of my favourite lipsticks. I haven’t worn this as much as I should have done so I decided to get it out, I love this colour, it is a staple colour for me and I have loads very similar.

I am a bit wary of using this too much on account of it actually not being available anymore because it was a part of the limited edition Christmas Holiday collection.

So there it is, my 6 product makeup look. I think the highlight of these products is the Freedom Pro Strobe palette, it is such a great mufti functional product and great value for money. It can even be used to do your brows if you like, which leads me into a little bit of a confession time.

This post was supposed to be a 5 makeup product look post, using the Freedom palette to do my eyebrows as well. However, after a long and tiring week, I sat down to do my makeup Friday morning with the intention of doing it with the 5 products only to completely get ‘candyfloss Mum brain’.

I was on autopilot and immediately just did my eyebrows as normal, bringing the total up to 6. I did not realise this until yesterday when I actually started counting up the products as I was writing. Just goes to show that we all make mistakes, we are human after all. Ciao for now makeup fans xx

  5. You look great! Such great tips! I am not very good at makeup myself, but if I just took more advice and suggestions and watched and listened to how other people did it, I could probably get better! Thanks for these!
