Top Five Eye Shadow Palettes; Find Out My Favourites

Eyeshadow was my first love

What are my top five eyeshadow palettes? As a child growing up in the 1980’s, the eyeshadow was always bright, colourful and made a statement. I remember watching people on TV with multi-coloured, over the top eyeshadow and wanting desperately wanting to recreate.

Many of my favourite palettes are bold, bright and colourful but I do have some favourite neutral palettes that I could not live without them. Here I will go through my five favourite eyeshadow palettes of all time. In the four years, I have been a makeup addict, I have come to know exactly what I like and have discovered that I definitely reach for the same ones on a regular basis.

Anastacia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

Anastacia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance

This palette is the ultimate ‘must have’. If you wanted to invest in a high-end palette then this is the one that everyone recommends. This palette has everything you need to create a variety of beautiful looks that are suitable for both day and night.

The quality of the eyeshadows are phenomenal and they blend like a dream. I love the array of different neutral colours with the pops of pink, red and orange. The majority of the shades are matte with the three shimmers, which I love about it. This means I can create a variety of different looks without having the problem of the shadows not having a seamless blend.

The packaging is another thing that I love about the Modern Renaissance. The whole box feels luxurious and elegant. Due to the pale pink colour, it does get grubby but it is not too big a problem. I like the pink and black colour combination with the gold writing, it looks sophisticated.

Soph X palettes review

Revolution Makeup Soph X palette

When this was launched I was slightly sceptical but after trying this out I was so impressed. If I was forced to just have one neutral palette, this would be my choice. For the bargain price of £10, you get an amazing quality palette with a range of shades that will suit anybody’s needs.

I love this palette mainly for the different array of transition shades. This palette has a colour that will suit any skin tone and the presence of the black means that you can deepen any colour up and make them work with your desired look.

I am a huge fan of Revolution Makeup and their ethic of bringing good quality makeup to people at a budget price. They court controversy for their duping of high-end products but I believe that their move into more collaborations with beauty Youtubers such as Tammi is a good direction. I find that their eyeshadow formulas are great and they come close to my beloved Makeup Geek shadows.

Morphe 35C

Morphe is another company that has courted controversy in the past as a business. At one point you could not escape this brand and the hype surrounding it. This was mainly due to beauty gurus continually rave about their palettes in every video they made.

Some people did not realise that these gurus were pushing their own affiliate codes at the same time. This lead to everyone thinking Morphe was amazing as a brand and buying into the hype. It is commonly known that Morphe has been a ‘private label’ company in the past and have been marketing cheap products just for the sake of their ‘brand’.

I was a person that bought into the hype of Morphe at the time, being a conformist I wanted to ‘fit in’. However, I am glad that I did or I would not have got the 35C which is my ultimate holy grail palette.

I wont rave about the quality, because the quality is average. I will not rave about the packaging as it is not good in my opinion. What I will rave about is the variety of colours in this palette and the possibilities this palette has to offer a person who is not afraid of some colour.

If I could only have one eye shadow palette in my life then this would be ‘the one’. I can get so many different looks with this and I would not get easily bored with this. The discontinuation of the palette makes me sad. I will not be able to replace this full spectrum of colours that offer me a multitude of different looks.

MUA Tropic Oceana palette

MUA Tropic Oceana Palette

I am all about colour and grabbing myself a bargain. This palette covers both of these areas in abundance. This is the most perfect spring and summer palette, the foiled shadows are fantastic. The shimmer/foils are super shiny and light up the room when applied wet. I find this palette easy to work with; the shadows blend well and there are different variations of the same colour.

The creative possibilities are only limited by your imagination with the different mixture of oranges, pinks, purples, greens and blues. I have created some of my most favourite looks with this palette and I refuse to part from it.

Juvia's Place Zulu Palette

Juvia’s Place Zulu Palette

Squealing with joy when I received this for Christmas; I was so excited to use it. As a colourful eye shadow addict, this palette speaks to my heart. I had heard great things about Juvia’s Place and it did not disappoint.

I have created lots of different looks with this palette, it blends beautifully. The pigmentation is strong and they can be layered to create different colours. This palette impresses me; I will be purchasing another Juvia’s Place palette in the near future. I am aware that I said I had banned myself from purchasing any more makeup palettes, but I feel that after having a long break I can purchase without guilt.

Makeup revolution Flawless 4 palette review

Honourable Mention – Revolution Makeup Flawless 4

I wanted to mention this palette as it is a great all-around palette. If I did not have the Modern Renaissance palette, then this would be in the top five instead. This is a fantastic palette for everyday makeup.

The quality of these eye shadows are fantastic and blend so well. I particularly love to play with this palette in the colder seasons. This is great for smoky eyes, nighttime glamour and day to day neutral looks.

What are your favourite eye shadow palettes, are any of yours the same as mine? Let me know what palettes float your boat below in the comments.

  1. I’m actually super in love with Born to Run right now, urban decay needed to hit it out of the park with something and I think this is bringing them back to their roots.

That Makeup Revolution palette looks amazing, I keep wanting to try them out and I always abandon my cart.
