Favourites: What’s making me happy in May

What are my favourite products in May?

It’s time for my most recent favourites. These are the things that are floating my boat over the past few months in terms of beauty and style. Grab yourself a drink, make yourself comfortable and get ready for my loves at the moment.

Statement necklaces

The reason I discovered this statement necklace was a striped top I bought from Primark. I bought the top due to seeing many mum bloggers wearing them. With my natural instinct being to conform to crowd trends, I hopped on the band wagon. However, I later discovered that striped tops make look rather large unless I break it up with something over it.

The solution I found was my trusted oversized cardigan and a large statement necklace that I got from Ebay. This necklace is not only chunky but the colours are perfect for the spring and summer. I have since been looking at getting some more chunky necklaces as I like to wear them as an extra touch on the weekends if I go out as I do not like wearing jewellery at work.

Mojito Shower gel

I am addicted to fruity smells and will get drawn into anything that smells like my favourite drinks like mojito and pina colada. This shower gel smells so divine and fresh and it makes me feel fabulous. Superdrug shower gels are a brilliant cruelty-free option and are mega cheap. I bought quite a few of these in a recent haul and I will be purchasing them again in bulk if I can as I love it so much. If anyone knows where I can get Mojito scented candles then I would be eternally grateful if you let me know in the comments.

Vosene Shampoo

This is another choice based partly on the scent. Vosene reminds me of my childhood and the fresh, clean, medicated smell use brings back memories of my childhood. When I was stripping the green from my hair, somebody recommended this shampoo to help and it didn’t disappoint.

This shampoo leaves my hair feeling so unbelievably clean and fresh; it is great for clarifying the hair. I have been using it recently in order to strip out a much of my Ruby Rogue colour as I can before changing to a lighter colour. As I mentioned in my post Growing Grey Disgracefully, I am growing out my grey hair so I do not have to continually bleach and damage my hair. I have been using semi permanent crazy colour hair dyes in order to transition to a length where I can cut out the bleached parts.

Meghan Markle

I wanted to write a whole blog post on Meghan Markle. However, I had a case of writers block so I thought I would include her here. The royal wedding is still fresh in our minds and I am drawn into the whole frenzy of media coverage that surrounds Meghan and come to admire her for her grace and style. She is not only immensely beautiful but her smile is amazing and I feel like it is the type that would light up the room. Her beaming smile may be due to her being so much in love with her own Prince and is about to become an example of a modern-day fairy tale or it could just be down to her personality.

She is definitely a style icon even before she bagged herself a Prince. I have been watching the show suits for years and have loved the ‘elegant and sophisticated’ look that she has as Rachel Zayn. Her departure from Suits has left me devastated. I will miss watching her poise and grace onscreen. She brings a breath of fresh air to the Royal family and I hope that the pressure does not prove too much or change that smile.

I read an article yesterday about her rebellious act of not wearing flesh coloured tights to an event with Prince Harry and going bare legged. This caused feathers to ruffle as she had disregarded the Queens rules of dress. I like that she has a slightly rebellious streak and does not necessarily conform to the rigid rules that the traditional monarchy set.

favourites aye aye captain eyeliner

W7 Aye aye captain eyeliner

I picked up this eyeliner because of my epic eyeliner post. After using this for a week I am in love. It does not have the thinnest of wands but what it lacks in fine lines it makes up for in sharp wings. This eyeliner creates a bold and sharp wing in a matter of seconds. I have received compliments more than once for my winged liner this week.

Revlon colourstay foundation in Ivory for dry/combination skin

I like this foundation mainly due to the great colour match this has. I bought this foundation a few years ago because everyone raved about it being a dupe for the Estee Lauder double wear. During that time I was pregnant with my daughter and subsequently had dry skin. I detested this Foundation when I first tried it as it would emphasize all of my dryness, I swore I would never buy it again.

Fast forward to two years later and I found myself drawn into buying it again after improving my skincare routine.Becoming recently obsessed with skincare, my skin is a lot more hydrated as a result. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this foundation for the second time.

The great thing about this foundation is that it is buildable; I can add more to the places I found troublesome and then only use a light layer on the rest of my face. The shade is a perfect match for my winter skin and it doesn’t look cakey like some other, thicker foundations.

Unfortunately, I will no longer be purchasing this foundation as I have decided to move towards all cruelty-free makeup. I must endeavour to find a foundation that works as well for every day; do you have any cruelty free suggestions four foundations similar to this one?

Makeup revolution iconic division eye shadow palette

Makeup Revolution Iconic division palette

Due to the changeable weather, I have been alternating between bright eye shadow palettes and more autumn inspired palettes. This is a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture palette and it is becoming a firm favourite. I usually go for brighter eye shadow looks but recently I have wanted something more subtle for work and this strikes the right balance. I love the mixture of yellows, oranges and greens. The green shimmer/foil shade is perfect for adding a pop of sparkle and is a perfect winter/spring appropriate shade.

Be Barefaced vitamin C corrective oil

Be Barefaced Vitamin C Corrective oil

A friend and fellow beauty lover recommended this facial oil. I had not heard of them and their products intrigued me.  I had not been using a facial oil for a while; my skin was definitely worse off for not indulging in one. This oil is fantastic, it has helped hydrate my skin and has even helped take troublesome eye makeup off in a gentle manner.

The fact that the oil was unscented disappointed me at first. Then I later came to realise that this is a positive with my extremely sensitive skin as many fragrances can cause irritation.

Be Barefaced are fantastic; I also have their serum and retinal cream which are fantastic. They are cruelty-free, paraben free and use only natural ingredients. I hope to do a brand focus post about Be Barefaced in the near future and share with you all their great products.

Nspa Raspberry Body butter

I have been making a concerted effort to use things up before buying more stuff. In that process have discovered I own many body lotions that I do not use. Applying body lotion is a rare act because I say I ‘never had time’ for it; I have come to realise that I need to make time to use them as a form of good self-care. Having mainly using this on my feet, my son has also joined in my ritual of using it every evening. The smell is the main bonus of this lotion; nearly every fruity smell leaves me in heaven and raspberry is no exception. I love that this lotion is thick and it makes my feet feel beautiful and soft.

Aldi candles Jo Malone dupes

Aldi Candles and room spray

I discovered these by accident on the hunt for a replacement for my Mandarin and Basil perfume from Primark. This scent was mentioned in my Spring Wishlist post. Being desperate to find another bottle of my favourite perfume, I heard Aldi had their own range. Unfortunately, I could not get hold of the perfume version in two of my local Aldi’s. Fortunately, I did manage to pick up some candles and some room spray. I bought four of the medium-sized candles; two Lime, Mandarin and Basil and two Blackberry and Bay. Also getting two of the Lime, Mandarin and Basil room sprays; I figured that at least I could spray it around my house and enjoy the smell.

What has been on your May favourites list; let me know what your recommendations are in the comment section. I love to hear about what everyone else loves.
Ciao for now beauties xx

  1. Tights in this weather? I think Meghan had the right idea! The Body Shop did some Mojito and Pina Colada shower gels last summer – I hope they’ll be back again this year. I haven’t tried the Superdrug ones, so thanks for the recommendation. I love body shop stuff but I have not got a store near me and I hate paying for postage. The superdrug shower gels are fantastic. I will give your blog a visit, thanks for stopping by.

I LOVE that eyeshadow palette! ❤️ My problem is that this brand doesn’t seem to be hypoallergenic….🙄 Thanks for sharing! 😀

That is a shame, it can be hard to find stuff that does not irritate your eyes. I have slightly sensitive eyes and have never had a problem with Revolution.
